Power Tool Drag Race Demo.
Saturday May 28th 2005
After the interest sparked by the Power Tool Drag Race program that aired on the Discovery Channel, the promoters of the SanFransisco event were asked to do a demonstration of this wacky sport for some Children at the Lawrence Hall of Science located at the University of California Berkeley.
The Lawrence Hall of Science is located way up the mountain above the Campus.
This vantage point gives you a view of darn near
the entire bay area. On a clear day you could probably even see it.
You can also see a lot of the Campus which takes up most of the mountainside.
This Demo Event was put on by the (usual suspects) Charlie Gadeken from the Box Shop. Simone Davalos (The Gal Friday) from the Long Now and David Calkin from The University of San Francisco, Robo Games and whatever else Dave is involved in.
David was the official (Safety Guy) this time. Boy that really made me feel a lot safer.
As always this event was just for fun and the enhancement of life for all of the warm and fuzzy fur and feather bearing critters living on Terra.
Since this was just a demo event a full track was not required.
So basically only one track was used and it was about 40 feet long.
We did have a professional Flag Girl dressed to the nines in all American style.
Machine art lovers and competitors came from all over the local area.
As usual the power wires were carefully laid along side the track.
The official launch system was positioned close to the ground to give the multitude of race fans an excellent view of the amazing action.
Road Rash returned for some testing of its mighty saw motor and its free floating suspension system.
Road Rash also tested out a duel set of saw blades mounted on a custom built drive hub.
Banana's were also tested as racing equipment. I'm not totally sure why? But they do add to the flavor of events like this.
Hmm...... Maybe the Bananas do help.
The mighty vacuum powered machine Sucky showed up to demonstrate its amazing ability to suck its way to victory.
