Red Rocket Racer
This racer is Hot. Literally

The Red Rocket Racer came mostly from a frame I made to test electric motors with. It has a lot of room for batteries in the front. Originally it was made to use an Etek 48 VDC Electric  motor for power but the speed controller I got was bad and it never ran So it just set outside and rusted for two years in the Valley heat.

For this Racer I used two  nine inch angle grinder motors  I scored on sale at harbor freight for $35.00 each.. There actually pretty torquey.

Of course even two mighty Central Electric nine inch angle grinders need some help so I added a jack shaft and a second reduction for a total of 16-2 to 1 . That should get even My considerable Mass moving.

The Red Rocket Ranger is capable of 12.4 mph on a good day. I didn't gear it for speed. The Braking system was my feet and I didn't want to ruin my shoes.

Ya know,.. If your gonna build yourself an electric flame throwing car, "ya midaswell build yorself a pickup, with side boards and wheelie bars".... My Buddy Matt Borrowed my Radio Flyer Wagon (Ranger) and added a floor board and some nice hardwood sideboards. That made the Poofer (Hippie Heater) fit nice and snug.. Nothing Says "Good Loving" like a warm Hippie on a cold S.F. Summer night..

The poofer was mounted in the wooden frame then bolted and secured. Ah the magical days of Spring and two little boys playing with their imaginary Rocket Wagon.

Well Ahh!... What do you think? "Does it look, OK?", to Ride? I Love the Glow in our Sunglasses. Glow in Sunglasses is good stuff.

In testing we found the fire to be too hot at 20 feet (for comfort). So we tested and demonstrated the effects of our poofer and then the organizers set up a safety standard that worked well. Basically you have to stay away from this machine at least 20 feet and you will be fine. Of course, I had to drive it. Heh.....

Hitting the poofer switch with a full tank, demonstrates the proper visual effect for this simulated rocket. The Poof dissipates as the pressure in the poofer tank drops. So a 3 second run down the track makes a nice poof for about 2 seconds and then an impressive trailing fire for the last 20 feet or so.

Through some changes in the piping (jetting) we were able to make the Rocket poof for the length of the track. That made it very safe when doing a run. Matt and I Discussed and TESTED safety issues during this build and testing. For the rest of you folks, Don't Do this at Home!!.  A lot of research was put into this effect. I can not provide details of the poofer design.

Well yep, I guess were done racing since Matts done pushing the GO POWER button...!
It's a different exsperiance piloting a flame throwing racer with some one else powering it's motors with their index finger on a recycled missle launch control board.

Through an unforeseen act of fate, I was challenged by the Jon Sarriuguarte's BIG WHEEL!!! This machine,  boy's and girl's, Is the biggest, dangest, spinningest, grinderest, inertiamassest, racing thingy on the Ace International Speedway PTDR racing circuit. The dang thing weighs about  a Ton and it is powered with a diesel truck tire and rim spun up with three 120 VAC Nine inch angle grinders and then this monster tire  is dropped on the ground to use the inertia of the BIG WHEEL .... Holy Hamburgers Kids, that's when she get's a move on....

I hit the poofer button while along side Jon (driving the Big Wheel) While looking him in the Eye. (Actually, I was (nicely beaten) by John and his Big Wheel. (his first win ever in that machine))

Folks have mentioned my Angelic looks while driving the racer. Here's the deal. I've Commercial Fished and survived the Sea. I've Tractor Pulled and survived the Dirt. I' flown as a Pilot and survived the Air and Ground. I'm usually about this calm when I think about the variables that make up a simply complicated task that may go wrong and could KILL me. Basically this is the, I'm not quite ready to poop my pants mode.

When in doubt think about nothing and react to everything. Pucker up!, Flyboy.

Power Tool Drag Racing is fun for Rednecks and their Hippie victums (Friends). I mean heck (nothing really matters) and there's Beer, cheerleaders,  live bands,  fire, smoke and Steam Ironed Hot Dawgs involved.
I'll bet my Monday morning water cooler (what I did this weekend stories) are better than your's.

So get your Butt off the couch, go out into the Garage and Build Something.
Keep Americans Strong. Pass On What You Have Learned, (to the Couch Potato sitting next to you).

I double Dawg Dare Ya to beat me in the Funny Car class. You owe it to yourself and your children, to try..

Is three eights bigger than nine sixteenths?
